Arrive at the entrance of Hell’s Gate National Park and pick your mode of transport. For Ksh500 select a bike at the front entrance and off you go, peddling along the dirt road, breathing in the rock formations and feasting your eyes on the wildlife.
Driving is possible, if biking’s not your thing, but there is something truly magical about the openness and exposure of being on a bike, looking to the left at buffalo in the distance, to the right at impala playing in the bushes, or straight ahead to zebras standing at the side of the road.
Incredible, even if I finished the day bruised and scratched from falling off my bike… twice. But if that’s the worst thing that happens to me in hell, I think I’m doing alright.
